Bodegas Balbás
The Balbás winery’s history dates back more than two hundred years ago to the town of La Horra in the heart of the Ribera del Duero region. The name of Balbás has been linked to wine for six generations and is run today by Juan José Balbás, the great-great grandson of the original founder, Abundio Balbás. Bodegas Balbás was one of the pioneering wineries that helped to set up the appellation (D.O. Ribera del Duero) in 1982, which covers more than 300 wineries today. Juan José Balbás was president of the D.O. Regulatory Council from 1996 to 2000.
Using techniques developed over more than 200 years, and combined with innovative processes, Balbás produces exceptional wines and is committed to preserving the excellence of its brands.
Carramimbre
Bodegas Carramimbre is located on the El Pingón estate, just outside the city of Peñafiel in the province of Valladolid. Founded in 1997 by a group of families with a long history of wine making in the Ribera del Duero area, the estate covers over 80 hectares of privately owned vineyards and has a capacity of 900,000 kg (237,755 gallons).
Martín Berdugo
Although the story of Martín Berdugo goes back centuries, the single-vineyard estate that surrounds the modern winery was planted by its owner, Josefina, in the 1980s with the support of her husband Enrique and their children Antonio, Bruno and Pepa. The estate yielded its first grape harvest in 1994, which was sold to other wine producers in the region. By 2020 the estate reached an important maturity milestone, with half of its vines reaching 30 years of age.
Martin Berdugo wines are produced with the idea to retake the original concept of Ribera del Duero wines, giving priority to fruit in aromas and power in color, while avoiding excessive tannins and acidity.
Frutos Villar
The Frutos Villar family’s experience in wine production can be traced back to the dawning of this century, when it bought up and sold wine from the region of Toro, for local distribution. Well before the officially demarcated wine regions of Spain (Denominaciones de Orígen or D.O.) came into being, the Frutos Villar family established its first winery at Toro in 1920. True to their ideal of renewal and progress, in 1960 they established a second winery in Cigales.
In 1988 the Frutos Villar family purchased Bodegas Santa Eulalia, a winery belonging to the Ribera del Duero region. And in 1990 they began the production and marketing of wines from Rueda. The wines produced in the Ribera del Duero come from 160 hectares of carefully selected vineyards belonging to 51 winemakers encouraged to participate in the Ribera del Duero project of the Frutos Villar family.
